Aoto Coffee
A moment to unwind in the city.
Aoto Coffee in Katsushika roasts its own beans, serving neighborhood-themed blends, single-origin pour-overs, café au lait, and Izawa Shoten scones in a quiet neighborhood space.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Sitting at the counter and browsing the menu, guests encounter house-roasted coffee blends named after local Katsushika neighborhoods. The signature Aoto Blend is a medium roast characterized by gentle acidity and a light toastiness, developing a smooth palate that shifts subtly as the cup cools. Those after deeper richness might turn to the Tateishi Blend, roasted dark with lingering bitterness, or the Shibamata Blend, crafted to balance sweet notes. Lighter profiles like the Kameari Blend and multi-roast combinations like the Katsushika Blend offer beans tuned to local impressions.
Beyond the blends, single-origin selections include floral Ethiopian beans, robustly bitter Mandheling, and round Brazilian peaberry. Any variety can be prepared hot, iced, or as a café au lait. Cold choices include a clear, refreshing cold brew and iced café au lait over ice cubes.
Scones sourced from Izawa Shoten in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, pair naturally with each brew. Reheated before serving, they present an honest, rustic grain sweetness. Flavors rotate from time to time alongside staples like brown sugar, creating an agreeable counterpoint to the bitterness and acidity of the coffee.
Anchored by a coffee roaster, the interior holds counter stools and a few small tables in a peaceful setting. Whole beans are sold for home brewing, and drinks can be ordered to go, making the shop just as useful for picking up provisions as for sitting down with a quiet cup.
